Extend Your Trip

explore brazil

You're flying to Brazil — you might as well make it count. Here are our favorite places to extend the trip, with the logistics to get there from Taíba or from São Paulo.

Fortaleza

Closest major city to Taíba

Ceará's capital and the closest major city to Taíba. Beautiful beaches, excellent seafood, vibrant nightlife, and a walkable beachfront promenade.

From Taíba

About 1 hour east by car along the CE-085. Easiest by private transfer or taxi (~R$200).

From São Paulo

Direct flights to Fortaleza (FOR), about 3h15. Multiple daily on LATAM, GOL, and Azul.

Don't missIracema Beach, the local market, fresh crab at a beachside restaurant.

Jericoacoara

The detour worth making

One of Brazil's most iconic beach destinations — a car-free village surrounded by dunes, lagoons, and turquoise water. Famous for kitesurfing, sunset views from the dune, and a distinctly magical, slow-paced energy.

From Taíba

About 4 hours west along the coast. Best done by 4x4 transfer from Fortaleza, or fly Fortaleza → Jericoacoara (JJD, 45 min) followed by a 30-minute 4x4 ride into the village.

From São Paulo

Fly to Fortaleza (FOR), then connect to Jericoacoara (JJD) on Azul, or transfer overland (~4.5 hours).

Best forAdventure travelers, couples, anyone who wants something off the beaten path.

Lençóis Maranhenses

A landscape from another planet

One of Brazil's most surreal landscapes: a vast desert of white sand dunes dotted with crystalline freshwater lagoons that appear only after the rainy season (May–September — perfect timing for our wedding).

From Taíba

Drive to Fortaleza (1h), fly to São Luís (SLZ, ~1h15), then a 4-hour transfer to Barreirinhas, the gateway town.

From São Paulo

Fly to São Luís (SLZ) via Brasília or Recife (~5–6h total), then 4-hour ground transfer to Barreirinhas.

Best forPhotographers, nature lovers, bucket-list seekers.

Rio de Janeiro

The classic

No introduction needed. Christ the Redeemer, Ipanema and Copacabana, Sugarloaf, samba in Lapa, extraordinary food. One of the world's great cities.

From Taíba

1-hour drive to Fortaleza, then a direct flight to Rio (GIG or SDU), about 3 hours.

From São Paulo

Hourly shuttles between CGH/GRU and SDU/GIG, ~1 hour in the air.

Don't missA sunset caipirinha at Pedra do Arpoador, the Selarón steps, sunset from Santa Teresa.

São Paulo

Brazil's culinary capital

More New York than Rio — dense, diverse, and extraordinary for food and art. The restaurant scene is world-class. Great base for flights home.

As most international guests will arrive through São Paulo, we have a special page for São Paulo recommendations and meetups prior to the wedding.

See São Paulo guide →

From Taíba

1-hour drive to Fortaleza, then direct to GRU (~3h15) on LATAM, GOL, or Azul.

From São Paulo

You're already here.

Don't missIbirapuera Park, MASP, dinner in Vila Madalena or Pinheiros.

Chapada Diamantina

Brazil's best hiking

A breathtaking national park in Bahia's interior — waterfalls, caves, crystalline rivers, dramatic plateaus. The antithesis of beach and city; perfect if you want to go deep into the country.

From Taíba

Drive to Fortaleza, fly to Salvador (SSA, ~1h30), then either a 6-hour drive inland or a short connecting flight to Lençóis (LEC).

From São Paulo

Direct flight to Salvador (SSA, ~3h), then drive ~6 hours or connect on a small plane to Lençóis (LEC).

Fernando de Noronha

The clearest water you'll ever see

Brazil's most pristine archipelago — UNESCO-protected, stunningly beautiful, with the clearest water you'll ever see. Limited access keeps it uncrowded. One of the best diving and snorkeling destinations in the world.

From Taíba

Drive to Fortaleza, fly to Recife (REC) or Natal (NAT), then a 1-hour connecting flight to Fernando de Noronha (FEN). A daily environmental preservation fee is charged on arrival.

From São Paulo

Fly to Recife (REC, ~3h), then a 1-hour connecting flight to FEN. Plus the daily preservation tax.

The Amazon (Manaus)

Like nothing else on earth

Fly to Manaus and take a riverboat or guided expedition into the rainforest. An experience like nothing else on earth. Not for everyone — but if it calls to you, answer.

From Taíba

Drive to Fortaleza, connecting flight to Manaus (MAO) via Brasília or São Paulo, ~6–8 hours total.

From São Paulo

Direct flight to Manaus (MAO), about 4 hours on LATAM or Azul.

Florianópolis

Island life in the south

An island city off Brazil's southern coast — over 40 beaches, lagoons, surf breaks, and a laid-back local culture. A favorite escape for Paulistas and a beautiful contrast to the Northeast.

From Taíba

Drive to Fortaleza, then a connecting flight to Florianópolis (FLN) via São Paulo or Brasília, ~6–7 hours total.

From São Paulo

Direct flights to Florianópolis (FLN) on LATAM, GOL, and Azul, about 1h15.

Best forBeach lovers who want cooler weather, surf, and a different side of Brazil.
